Villa Athena is perched over the beach in a private community on the southern Dutch side of
the island called Guana Bay. St. Maarten (pronounced Sint Maa-hr-ten) is the world's smallest
island shared by two sovereign governments. English and Dutch are the native languages of the
territory. The harmonious Dutch and French heritage of St. Maarten adds to the diversity and
intrigue of the Caribbean island.
Due to the destructive nature of Hurricane Andrew in 1994, the Villa Athena home was rebuilt
from the ground up a year later. The hurricane passed right over Guana Bay and most the homes
in the valley were blown off their foundations. The homeowners had to start over, but the results
of their rebuilding efforts are breathtaking. The classy, private community surrounding
Villa Athena looks lovely. Secluded from the tourist-oriented mainland, Villa Athena is
nestled down a steep road by the beach.
On the beautiful beach with its fine sand and sparkling blue water, there's plenty to do...
or not to do if you just want to unwind! Adventurous types can enjoy diving, jet skiing,
snorkeling and windsurfing. Leisurely folks can simply catch some rays, read in the sun,
stroll the shore and doze off to the sounds of the ocean. Villa Athena's tropical location
is enjoyable for everyone.
There's even more to do in St. Maarten. The island's recreational activities include water
sports like boating, fishing, kayaking, parasailing and wind surfing. Familiar sports such
as golf, hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, running, and skydiving become spectacular
in the island's tropical setting.
Villa Athena makes memorable experiences for everyone who visits, be it a honeymooning
couple, a group of fun-seeking friends or a retreating family. Adults enjoy the romantic
scenery by the water and the thrill of the St. Maarten nightlife. The island offers a dozen
nearby casinos for gaming enthusiasts. Families and couples can venture into the island for
plenty of terrific shopping and dining opportunities at its hundreds of stores and restaurants.
Special Attractions on the island include the St. Maarten Museum, the St. Maarten 12-Metre
Regatta and the St. Maarten Zoological and Botanical Garden. On this magical island, there's
truly something for everyone.
